15 Of The Most Dangerous Toys Released

From the moment we can grasp the thought of right and wrong, parents and guardians implement the common sense needed to make it in the world. We’re told just what is dangerous, unsafe to consume and that some things are just not a toy. You would think that when it comes to children toys, there would be a careful decision as to what can be sold in stores and marketed for a young audience. Apparently, some toys managed to make it through those initial tests just to receive recalls, bans or various warnings and safety issues from the media. Here are 15 dangerous toys that were released into the market.

Gilbert U-238 Atomic Energy Lab

You wouldn’t give a weapon to a child would you? How about some radioactive materials? Albert Gilbert, the creator of the Erector Set, released the Gilbert U-238 Atomic Energy Lab in the early 1950’s. The idea behind the set was to get kids interested in careers that revolved around science and engineering. However, the kit included radioactive materials which meant the kit was pulled from shelves not too long after its release.

Snacktime Cabbage Patch Kids

Cabbage Patch Kids is a popular toy franchise, so when Mattel released the Snacktime Cabbage Patch Kids doll, children would flock the store shelves attempting to hopefully sway their parents in making the purchase. The doll’s angle was that it could automatically eat plastic foods when it was fed to them. Although there was a problem to this function. It didn’t take very long before fingers and hair to get stuck in the motorized mouth, leaving some children with injuries, not to mention the fear of being eaten alive by your own toy doll.

Belt Buckle Derringer Cap Gun

Toy guns are always popular with children. From pretending to be in a battle with enemies to becoming cowboys and police officers, a plastic gun is practically in every toy box. During the 1950’s, Mattel released the Belt Buckle Derringer Toy Gun. This was a toy gun that was placed inside a belt buck which would fire a plastic bullet and ignite a cap when a child stuck out his stomach. Some of these caps would ignite when fired which would create nasty burns.
