Maryland police officer Michael Flaig, 31, bit into another man’s testicles during a fight that took place outside Looney’s Pub in Baltimore. Flaig was arrested Tuesday night and has been charged with assault, but the victim’s name has not been released.
According to the victim, Flaig had been making sexual advances against the victim’s roommate. Flaig was asked to stop repeatedly but wouldn’t, and an argument soon followed. Eventually, the victim decided to leave the bar, but Flaig followed and attacked the victim outside. Flaig threw a punch but missed, and his momentum sent him sprawling to the ground. The victim, realizing his opportunity, tried to pin down Flaig by straddling the officer’s chest. Unfortunately, the victim was too close to the officer’s neck area. Flaig, having no other option, then bit into the victim’s testicles, which essentially ended the fight. Flaig soon fled.
The off-duty officer was later arrested at another bar, and he was still wearing a bloodied shirt. He soon received misdemeanor charges of public intoxication, second-degree assault and endangering the victim’s safety. Anne Arundel County Chief of Police Timothy J. Altomare made a statement regarding the case: “These charges are disturbing and we have an obligation as police officers to conduct ourselves in a professional manner on and off-duty”.
A veteran officer of ten years, Flaig has been put on suspension and is set to appear in court on June 19th. What’s more, another unidentified man was involved in the fight, but how and in what way remains unclear. This unidentified man is still at large.
