A deadly suicide attack in the south-eastern province of Paktika, in Afghanistan, has killed nine people and injured more than 50 people. According to officials, the explosion was caused using a car or motorcycle bomb and the targets behind the attack were thought to be government officials who came to witness the game. This is the second major incident occurring in the region in the recent past, as a similar attack killed more than 50 people just under a year ago.
No terrorist or independent group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. The attack occurred in Paktika, which is close to the Pakistan border and has been in the middle of a war against terrorism for sometime now. After most of the supporting troops left Afghanistan last year, the official security forces have been fighting an uphill battle against the militant outfit Taliban. Attacking sporting venues and other public places seems to be the new modus operandi of the highly dangerous terrorist organization.
